Beginner Courses
The beginners course is 12 hour long course and is the minimum instruction period we recommend to people who want to start the sport. This is the minimum amount of instruction time for complete beginner kitesurfers to be able to progress by themselves afterwards - in a safe and controlled way. The 12hours is spilt up into 4 sessions of 3 hours each. On completion of the beginner course we offer special discounts to students who wish to buy equipment after lessons.
The first 3 hours of our kitesurfing courses takes place on land. You will get to grips with your first power kite and explore the exciting sensation of controlling the power and you will learn to control the kite in a safe manner which the whole course focuses on, as all the kite sports involve 90% kite control.
Once you have mastered the basics, we get you into the wetsuit and ready for the water. For the next 3rd and 4th sessions (6 hours) we learn to use bigger, more powerful water relaunchable kites, to really feel the awesome power that these kites can produce. We learn to bodysurf or bodydrag, using the power of the kite to pull you through the water. We cover other safety aspects such as how to retrieve your board if you fall off and how to pack the kite down safely in the water in the event something goes wrong. We also learn the techniques needed to get you first rides on the board before we grab the board in the last session.
When your instructor is sure you are ready for it, we will introduce the board for the 4th session. You will apply everything you have learned over the course to try your first board starts, using kite control to power up and be lifted out of the water onto the board. This takes a lot of practice but is a lot of fun, and the sense of achievement you get when you get your first short ride is exhilarating to say the least and usually people are completely hooked from here on! The average distance traveled at this stage is usually only a few meters but sometimes far more. Then after your lesson, with a little practice, you'll soon be able to go the length of the beach, and try your first jumps!
Before letting you go after each session, your instructor will give you a personal debriefing, letting you know how you got on, if you need to improve on anything and what the next steps are. This rounds off the course and gives new kitesurfers the benefit of years of experience, condensed into a few hours on the water.
