The Crew
Coming from a family of sailors, the wind and sea have always been an attraction. We have been flying kites in and around the LSD area for over 10 years, with our first powerkiting experiences were using stunt kites in gale force winds to try and drive home made kite buggies - it wasn't very successful! We progressed on to real power kites and buggies, somehow managing not to injure ourselves, and we met other local kiters by chance around the area.
We started kitesurfing in 2002 and haven't looked back since. The gear back then was bad - there were no safety systems on the kites, they had poor handling, very little in the way of depower, and we often rode on home made boards. Over the years since then, the gear has improved so dramatically to make the sport far more accessible to a much wider variety of people. Our vast knowledge and experience from the past allows us to give you professional advice and tuition, to introduce you to this amazing sport which has changed our lives forever.
LSD Kiteboarding was started in 2008 by Peter and Eamon Armstrong. We wanted to provide a professional and safe service to those who wanted to take up the sport as it was becoming apparent that more people were trying to learn to kitesurf themselves with limited knowledge, resulting in more accidents and increased danger to other beach users. Since then we have become an important resource to the local kitesurfing community in the northwest and have helped grow the sport in Ireland by introducing hundreds of newcomers to kitesurfing and other kite sports. For 2011 Eamon has taken over the reigns of LSD Kiteboarding to continue to offer and exceed the level of service provide by LSD over the years.
Eamon Armstrong
Eamon from an early age was introduced to sailing by his father, progressing through sailing courses and national competitions until his mid teens. He spent over 7 years during this time teaching sailing to children and adults. Taking an interest in stunt kite flying with his brothers and cousin Peter, they progessed on to kitebuggying, terrorising the local walkers on Rosses Point beach for over 3 years. By 2002 he had felt buggying for him had reached its limit and after seeing the kitesurfing magazine brough over from the states his mind was made up. He had seen kites being used on the water with surfboards in photographs over the years but it never really looked appealing. This magazine showed a relatively developed sport of kitesurfing with an cool, progressive and innovative image being nutured in Hawaii and instantly knew this was what he wanted to do for the rest of his life.
Since then Eamon has progressed his kitesurfing skills to become one of the most well known and talented kitesurfers in Ireland achieving many podium competition finishes at national level as well as 3 successive Irish Kitesurfing champion titles. Using his past experiences in sailing tuition and his level of achievement in kitesurfing he now devotes most of his water time to introducing new comers into the world of kitesurfing, as well as helping more advanced kitesurfers to achieve their goals in the sport. With the patients of a saint he will make sure your journey into this sport will be fun filled, exciting, progressive and most of all, safe.
